Rust is known for its memory safety and performance, and it's been shown again and again that it lives up to those promises. However, companies are also finding that Rust gives them a path to modernize legacy systems, adopt safer and more secure codebases, and integrate Rust into architectures without costly redesign.

Through groups like Rust for Linux, the Safety Critical Rust Consortium, and initiatives like the Rust Vision Doc, we're learning not only about Rust's strengths, but the challenges to adoption. In this talk we’ll discuss how the Rust Project that builds the language and the Rust Foundation that is stewarding the language are promoting adoption and making Rust the obvious choice for your build.

Join Anton Weiss, Chief Cluster Whisperer at PerfectScale, along with Jack Huey, Ph.d, a Rust Foundation board member, and Lori Lorusso, Director of Outreach for the Rust Foundation, for a presentation on adopting Rust in real-world codebases.

What We’ll Cover:

  • A realistic picture of incremental adoption for teams that can't afford a rewrite
  • Guidance on fitting Rust into existing architectures without disrupting what's working
  • An inside view of how the Rust Project is reducing barriers for real-world engineering teams
  • A clearer answer to whether Rust is the right move for your codebase, from someone building the path forward

Jack Huey - Board Member, Rust Foundation

Jack works at the intersection of the Rust Project and the broader ecosystem. He's one of the people actually shaping how Rust evolves and how teams adopt it — which makes this a different kind of conversation.

Lori Lorusso - Director of Outreach, Rust Foundation

Lori has spent her career building the communities where developers actually want to show up.  As Director of Outreach at the Rust Foundation and a veteran of DevRel programs at JFrog and Percona, she knows how open source communities grow — and where they get stuck.

Anton Weiss - Chief Storyteller PerfectScale

Anton has a storied career in creating engaging and informative content that helps practitioners navigate through the complexities of ongoing Kubernetes operations. With previous experience as a CD Unit Leader, Head of DevOps, and CTO and CEO he has worn many hats as a consultant, instructor, and public speaker. He is passionate about leveraging his expertise to support the needs of DevOps, Platform Engineering, and Kubernetes communities.
